20 Aug Urgent: Schwab Phishing Alert
We recently received the email below and wanted to forward this to you as soon as possible. You need take no action other than to be aware of an alert for an email that purports to be legitimate but is in fact fraudulently soliciting private information.
Please call if you have any questions or concerns.
A phishing email targeted at installing malware and/or stealing client authentication information has been received recently by some Schwab clients. Please note that this phishing email was distributed to a large group of email addresses, many or most of them may have no relationship to Schwab. A copy of the email is below. The purported Schwab names used in these emails are not real Schwab employees — there is no indication that our systems have been compromised in any way.
This email was not sent by Schwab and is not affiliated with Schwab in any way.
We cannot stop this type of phishing/malware email from being sent by fraudsters, but we do work with outside vendors and the various internet browser providers to block and ultimately shut down the sites associated to the links in the phishing emails.
